Letter from the President
Team President - Mike Samuel
Welcome to the 2012 Hamilton Hurricanes season!
At this time I would like to thank all of the volunteers, staff, and the fans for making the 2011 season so successful. You gave tremendous support to our players on their run to capturing the Ontario Football Conference Championship for the second consecutive year and as the hosts for the Canadian Bowl Championship at Ivor Wynne Stadium.
The 2012 season is shaping up to be a great one for the Hurricanes. We are pleased to announce that thirty-five players from last year’s Championship team are returning this season, in addition to thirty-five new signees who were recruited and added to the team this past off-season. One of the most regarded signings was that of Middle Linebacker Adam Grilj. Adam will be an integral part of the defensive-side of the ball and will help shut down the opposition over the middle on both run and passing plays. We also have the full coaching staff returning this year with the addition of Danny Brown, who will be coaching the offensive line. One major change on the offensive-side of the ball is Kyle Johnston taking over at Quarterback. Kyle has moved from Wide Receiver to Quarterback and has done so with a positive attitude and has shown great confidence and ability during spring mini-camp. The Hurricanes will also be welcoming back their great volunteer staff including Jennifer Silvestri as Game Day Coordinator, Nick Pelletier as Media Coordinator, and our newest addition, Paige McElroy who will be taking over Alumni and Marketing responsibilities.
The Hurricanes are looking forward to a competitive season this year as there is more league parody each year in the OFC. This will allow for great match-ups each and every week and will make for exciting on-field action. The Hurricanes face new challenges every year and we are always retooling and scheming to put the most competitive team on the field. Our coaching staff and management have been working extremely hard this off-season to find the best players in the area and bring them to the team and allow the Hurricanes to make another run for a championship. The Canes will open the season with their first four-out-of-five games at home. And the season wouldn’t feel right if it didn’t start off with the Hamilton Hurricanes hosting their Skyway rivals, the Burlington Braves on August 11th. This has been a great rivalry every season and 2012 is no different. This rivalry will not disappoint as both teams look to one-up one another to gain the advantage in the standings right out of the gate.
This season will see the addition of a Cable 14 weekly TV show which will preview each upcoming Hurricanes game and recap the past week’s match-up. This show will feature highlights, commentary, and interviews with members of the Hurricanes organization and will allow the fans to get to know the team and the players on a deeper level. We feel that this is a great step forward for the Hurricanes organization and will allow us to build more relationships with the community.
Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you in the stands this season.
