A Great Season Comes to an Early End

Hamilton, Ontario – For the third straight year, the Hamilton Hurricanes (6-2) earned the right to play in the Ontario Football Conference Championship game and battle for the Teddy Morris Memorial Trophy.

After knocking off the Ottawa Sooners in semi-final action the Hurricanes travelled to London to take on the Beefeaters (7-1) for the Ontario title.

It was a cool and soggy night at TD Waterhouse Stadium which resulted in a defensive game for the first half of play.

Things opened up when the third quarter started with two quick touchdown strikes coming from Hurricanes’ QB Kyle Johnston to WR Daniel Parr. The score was 14-4 for the Hurricanes heading into the fourth quarter.

The Beefeaters were able to swing momentum in their favour with an 82-yard punt return for a touchdown to narrow the score to 14-11. The Beefs took the lead late in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard run for a touchdown after they were given great field position due to Hurricane penalties. This touchdown proved to be all the points the Beefeaters would need to secure the victory as Hurricanes’ quarterback Kyle Johnston was intercepted while trying to engineer a classic comeback with under a minute left to play.

The final score for the OFC Championship saw the London Beefeaters defeat the Hamilton Hurricanes by a margin of 19-16.

The win for the Beefeaters resulted in their first OFC championship in team history and the opportunity to travel to the west and play the Prairie Football Conference champion for the Jostens Cup. The winner of the Jostens Cup will then travel to British Columbia and compete for the Canadian Bowl championship against the BCFC champion.
