(HAMILTON, ON) – Today we announce the resignation of Head Coach Jason Hayes who is the longest tenured Head Coach in Hamilton Hurricanes history. Hayes had two stints as Hurricanes Head Coach from 2008-2018 and 2021-2022.
Coach Hayes is what it means to be a Hurricane. From his time at QB for the Club to Head Coach, no one has served longer in powder blue. Hayes leaves behind a lasting legacy and holds many records as bench boss.
Hayes has a coaching record of 80-48 (0.625), which is most wins all-time. He has taken the Hurricanes to seven Ontario Football Conference Championship appearances, has won four OFC titles and one Canadian Bowl appearance. These accomplishments are on top of what he has done to develop great football players for the Canes and, even more importantly, men who will become leaders in the community.
“Today is a sad day for the Club. Jason Hayes has left some big shoes to fill and has set a very high bar”, Team President, Mike Samuel said. “He is a brilliant football mind, who came in as Head Coach and leaves as a very dear and close friend.”
Samuel continued, “We cannot thank Jason enough for everything he has done to rebuild the Hurricanes since the team was put back into action in 2008.”
Jason has decided to step away from the Hurricanes to focus more of his time on his family, wife Tracy, daughter Linnea and son LJ. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
The Hamilton Hurricanes Football Club is actively accepting resumes for Head Coach. Resumes can be sent to Mike Samuel at msamuel@cogeco.ca or msamuel@the-canes.com.
